Happy Full Moon – oops I’m a music teacher

IMG_5552Happy first FULL MOON of 2017. It’s hard for me to believe it is already January 12. I don’t know about you but I feel like I was shot of out of canon into 2017. It could be because I started a new job teaching music for aged pre K-5. Holy smokes! more on that later…..

It’s an amazing time to be alive, isn’t it?

I really mean that. I do.

I feel as if so much change is coming – both inside me and in our world and country. This feeling of the unknown and impending change can definitely lead to anxiety and worry, but it can also lead to an opening and excitement for unlimited possibility. I have been learning and processing many tools of awareness over the past decade and I am so clear that NOW IS TIME TO APPLY THEM ALL. So, notice how much time you are spending on complaining. Notice how much time you are spending on worry. Notice how much time you are spending on social media. And ask yourself, how do I choose to spend my time? Where do I choose to focus my energy?

If it is true that what we focus on expands, why not focus on health, peace, balance, compassion, forgiveness, imagination, creativity, and love? Just because the world is shifting all around us, doesn’t mean we have to give in to our fears. In fact, these times call us to be more open, more understanding of those we disagree with, more curious about new solutions or ideas we never considered and more willing to stand in our truth with love.

As I wrap my brain around this new job and navigate my way through a drastic shift in our national governmental character and competence, I remember this quote from Maya Angelou:

I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

And so it is my prayer, that the students I teach and the people I meet in 2017 will feel peaceful after they spend time with me. For peace is the way. I also pray they will feel loved and seen and known and heard , because isn’t that we all want?
